Most campers will tell you that
they learned the most language "just around".
However, a child who speaks very little French
or who is shy or nervous will benefit greatly
from language classes. A camper can remain in
the class for any number of 3 day cycles during
her stay.
Language specialists provide optional conversation
classes at no extra cost.
All campers must be fluent in either French
or English to be registered as a camper. A child
who speaks little or none of her second language
should take the class - it will give her confidence
as well as knowledge. Campers can take the classes
for one or two cycles - they don't HAVE to remain
in them for their entire summer.
Groups are small (6-8 campers each), and are
offered in three levels: Beginner, Intermediate
and Advanced. The classes focus on vocabulary
development and fluency. You and your daughter
can be relieved... they are not at all like
school!
All campers take language lessons unless specified
by parents not to, or if they are strong enough
in their second language to not need language
lesssons.
All campers participate in swimming lessons
if they have not completed their final level
of learn to swim (or equivalent level)
Water activities require certain swimming strengths
which is determined during our swim evaluation.
If campers do not have the appropriate bracelet
for an activity, they may not participate. But
can always re-do their swim evaluation.
Camp doctors need to be informed of any recent
illness, before campers arrival at camp.
All families must include two (2) emergency
contacts.
Daily routine
Our official language alternates between french
and English every two days.Instructions, games,
announcements and other camp "business"
are communicated in the official language of
the day. Naturally, if a situation requires
switching to a camper's native language, our
staff will act accordingly!
We will always make sure your daughter understands
what's going on around her, and her safety and
well being is our priority. Sundays are bilingual.
