Camp Ouareau is a summer sleep away camp. It is a camp just for girls between the ages of 6 to 15. At camp, you sleep in a cabin on a Yukon tent with three or five other girls your age. Each cabin is has two English & two French campers, or 3-3 if you are in a cabin of six! Camp runs on a rotation of two days in English/two days in French, counselors have to speak the language of the day. You don't have to speak the language of the day, but it helps you practice your non-mother tongue and meet new people. Try your best, and you will see that you get better by the end of your stay.
Camp is very rustic, there is no electricity in the cabins or tents so be sure to bring your flashlight! All other buildings have electricity and the bathrooms have running water and hot water for showers! We also can't have IPods, cell phones or computers at camp because we want you to have the best experience at camp possible, and you don't need these things to have fun!
Camp has lots of activities and you get to choose which ones you want to do. Each day we have four activity periods that are an hour long, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Every three days you get to choose new activities or stick with some or all of the ones you were doing before. If you haven't finished your swimming levels you have to take swimming, the swim instructors make it fun and not like lessons at all. If you need to practice your second language you can take language as an activity. It is not like school, it is offered to help you communicate at camp as well as get better at speaking and understanding your second language, in language you get to bake cookies and go on hikes and when it's hot out sometimes the counselors take you swimming!
The counselors at camp work very hard to make sure you the campers have the best time at camp. Each week there is a special group of counselors that make up very entertaining programs for at night. There is a wide variety of activities like camp wide games, game shows & campfires to name a few! |
