The Dorothy Percival Fund
The DPFund was conceived after the
death of Ms. Percival, who was the second director of
Camp Ouareau. After her passing, I received an envelope
with $20 in it and a note. The note explained how Ms.
Percy, as she was called, had paid for this women’s
tuition one semester. The woman’s father had lost
his job, and Ms. Percy found out about the situation,
and knew that the woman (back then a girl) would have
to stop school, so she helped her out. It was with that
first $20 and many more stories to follow about Ms.
Percy that the Dorothy Percival Fund began to grow,
over the years providing many girls with the opportunity
to experience camp.
If you know of a girl who could use the assistance of
the Fund to attend camp next summer, please send me
her name. I will then send the family an application
form. If the child is accepted, her camp fees will covered
by a three-way contribution from the parents, the camp
and the DPF.
The DPF joined the Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund
as a restricted endowment fund, which ensures that any
donations made to the DPF will be used to send campers
specifically to Ouareau. The fund is professionally
managed to ensure that we will continue to be able to
support campers for many years to come. An alumnae by
the name of Kim Geddes is on the board of directors
of Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund to assist with
the DPFund for Ouareau.
Donations are also now tax receiptable. To make a donation,
please visit "CanadaHelps"
and "Taylor
Statten Camping Bursary Fund".
Please include a note in the "Message" field
indicating that you would like your donation to go to
the Dorothy Percival Fund. We look forward to welcoming
more DPF girls this summer.
