STORY OF THE INVERCAULD and OUR NAME In May of 1864 the Invercauld of Aberdeen was wrecked at the base of the towering cliffs of the sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands. Nineteen men survived the wreck, only three lived to be rescued 375 days later. One of those men was my great-grandfather, Robert Holding. His story is told in my book "Wake of the Invercauld The ship was built in Scotland under the auspices of the chieftain of the Clan Farquharson, and in his honour a figurehead was carved in his likeness and placed on the ship.It is with the kind permission of the present Laird that our small Canadian company bears this proud name.
