Part One: Mistreated, mateless mother,is a true story of adoption loss. It is my story and my truth. It is written from my perspective as a natural mother. In it I tell my own story of how I lost my first child through adoption and of the impact that loss has had on my life .. Part Two: The grief caused by adoption loss, is what I believe to be the true story of adoption loss and its outcomes. It is written from my perspective as a social worker. In it I explore the literature and research that already exist on adoption loss and grief. Part Three: What does it all mean? Here I bring together the issues raised in the first two parts. The first two chapters of this part of the book explore what adoption loss means for me and the second two chapters explore what adoption loss means for society in general. In this part of the book I show how what we can learn from past adoption experiences will lead us towards a future without adoption.
